The invention of the
microscope revealed a world that could not be seen by the naked eye.
It permitted the exploration of the very fabric of life. The
titles include "The Microscope," which shows how it works and is
used. "Winky" shows the power of magnification by presenting a
series of photographs, each using increased magnification. It
begins by showing Winky the elephant and ends up with a detailed
picture of the eye of fly that rests on his trunk.
"Visualizing Cells" provides an introduction to the subject.
Two sets of
10 cell posters explores the subject in depth. Ogden
Nash even wrote an ode to the cell. These are rounded out by
posters dealing with "Living Sands," "Visualizing Mitosis" and an
educational poster on viruses and bacteria. Most of these are
intended for classroom use and teachers will find them a
valuable teaching resource.
